Ms. Sandra Tam is a long-time resident of Markham, a community advocate, and a seasoned business leader with over twenty years of public service experience. She has dedicated her career to growing her community, sustaining local businesses and building relationships on a local and global scale.
During her tenure as Markham’s Senior Business Development Officer, Sandra worked with her team at City of Markham and community business members to focus their efforts on the “Global Markham” strategy, which propelled Markham into an internationally recognized leader for talent, innovation, diversity, and equity.
She is a strong advocate for local businesses. She was formerly the Manager of the Markham Small Business Centre where she successfully established as one of the leading resource centres for the small business communities in Markham.
Sandra is passionate about equitable healthcare and a strong believer in community hospitals. In July 2021, this passion led to her early retirement from public service to dedicate her time to raising awareness and campaigning for Markham Stouffville Hospital to ensure the community has access to world-class healthcare right as their doorsteps.
This passion has also led her to run in 2022 as the Liberal candidate for Markham-Thornhill MPP and Ward 3 Councillor, City of Markham.
Currently, besides running her management consulting business, Sandra volunteers as the Vice President, Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs, Honoary Advisor, Canada Hubei Chamber of Commerce and P.R. Officer of the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Markham Arts Council and as the Secretary, Board of Directors for the Asian Culinary Arts Council for Canada.
