Dr. Songnian Zhou

Dr. Songnian Zhou was the CEO, Chairman and a co-founder of Platform Computing. Dr. Zhou received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1987. From 1987 to 1997, he was a Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Toronto. His Ph.D. research pioneered the technology of distributed computing resource sharing and was the catalyst for the creation of Platform Computing in 1992. Today, Platform Computing is a world leader in distributed grid and cloud computing software, with 600 staff and 20 growing and profitable years of history. Platform's solutions have been adopted by over 2000 enterprises worldwide. In 2012, IBM acquired Platform Computing to ensure its leadership in distributed and cloud computing market.

In recognition of his academic and entrepreneur accomplishments, Dr. Zhou was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2001. Dr. Zhou was selected as the 2002 Ernst & Young Technology Entrepreneur of the Year. In 1997, he received the inaugural award of the Entrepreneur of the Year by the Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs.
